White privilege is being an unadulterated racist and CNN waters it down to "anxiety." What's it going to take? A televised lynching?https://twitter.com/brianstelter/status/1027717159294849029 …

It's watered down (I read before I tweeted for the record as I do 99% of the time)

@michaelcozens@brianstelter They're making excuses for racism...Bloomberg did something similar todayhttps://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-08-09/alt-right-views-in-u-s-spring-from-common-source-economic-woes …

Brian, this line: “Media Matters and other outspoken Trump critics have accused him of promoting white nationalist ideas, a charge he has repeatedly rejected.” This is not a they said/he said issue. Trump has promoted white nationalism since the first day of his campaign.

It's like saying "some say the earth is round and mostly water and orbits the sun"

Anxiety makes it sounds like it's just something people are rightfully nervous about. Racism makes it sound like what it actually is, and that is unadulterated hatred.

As the white person, you are obligated to listen to this. Don't immediately become defensive.

"White anxiety finds a home" is indefensible.

It is watered down. Call racism what it is. It’s not anxiety. It’s what causes POC like me daily anxiety. You can’t imagine the fear it causes. Laura Ingraham’s remarks were so openly racist, David Duke sent a very warm commendation.

Your little internal doohickey that's telling you, "Yeah man, we really took it to those SOBs!" needs a recalibration.

Kludt's tweet made me want to read the story. Yours did not. He's clear about white nationalism. You softpedaled it with "anxiety".https://twitter.com/TomKludt/status/1027717377310552065 …

Please point to anywhere in the piece where you used pointed language that wasn't a direct quote. Everywhere that you could have said "racist" you said "anxiety". You may think that's the unbiased way to speak but using coded language that downplays the behavior IS taking a side.

Does it not make an impression when poc (particularly colleagues) constantly tell you your positions are watered down? You obviously disagree, but since you are trying to be an ally and truth teller it might behoove you to seek their perspective rather than defend your own.

Why should I read it when you arbitrarily neutered the lede? "Anxiety" suggests they have a bad case of stage fright. You saw the sick joke of "Economic Anxiety" & CHOSE to echo it. Any readership after that failure is pure charity. Sorry - I gave at the office.

Semantics; like when media couldn't call T a liar. But different bc racism so pervasive in US. CNN's broad audience needs good articles like this.
