Rallies do not have to be broadcast live to be “covered”. Re-broadcast the highlights with emphasis on the LIES!
-
BINGO!!!!
-
I don't remember too many Obama rallies covered. Covering his seems to be TV waiting to see if a fight or shooting breaks out. Or if no one comes to it.
-
Was Obama even having rallies at this point in his presidency?
-
I believe he was busy working.

By covering his rallies you are legitimizing him. His base interprets that what he is saying is important. IT'S NOT. MSM is partly responsible for getting him elected. You broadcast every time he opens his mouth. Enough already! What about = time for DEMS!
-
Exactly! Constant coverage of his every batty word may seem like a duty to you,
@brianstelter, but it is, in fact, destructive in the long run. You give those local rallies way more importance than they deserve. They have nothing to do with the rest of us. -
By airing his rallies they are basically broadcasting propaganda.
-
Exactly. It's so frustrating that we can't get that through to the press. They're enabling his nutiness but won't own up to it.
-
I want to expand that I also feel it's different when it's a rally, as far as I know campaigning isn't an official duty of a POTUS.
-
Especially when everyone else's rallies turn into a pep rally for Trump--full of the usual ugliness and hate. I want to scream every time I see the entire press contingency covering it as if it's something presidential. Trump taunts them because he knows what suckers they are.
-
Ramona, I agree, everytime they cover it they play it over and over again. They are playing right into his tiny little hands. AlI the coverage is for him, it makes me sick. I turn it off or switch channels. Most times I'm watching the BBC.
-
I don't think they realize that, either; that they're losing a good portion of their audience with their wall to wall Trump coverage. There is no earthly need to broadcast those rallies. "Tell, don't show" should be the new Trump era directive.

You don't have to air them live to cover them. You don't have to replay the sound bites over and over. That is what he wants. Exposure and repetition. It's called: advertising. Cover what's right or wrong, read the quote, tell your audience the news. Don't advertise him.

I agree with Ezra 100%. He's right
@cnn, please stop covering Trump's nonsensical rallies. He says nothing new, nothing edifying to the American people as a whole, he talks only to his base and it's full of racism and division not to mention countless lies.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@ezraklein Disingenous of CNN to say it *has* to cover Trump rallies when, during election it ONLY covered Trump rallies and played highlights of Clinton rallies.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

He's not saying you shouldn't cover what he says at them (& hopefully fact check him).He means you don't have to broadcast all of them live & uninterrupted. If he says anything new or egregiousness report on it but you don't have to be his stenographer & rally broadcaster
