This is improperly stated. Why would it be uncomfortable to say, "One side is led by someone who lies a lot. Now here's what the other side says...?" That is covering both sides. The discomfort is that journalists are taught to CREDIT both sides with good will. Via @brianstelterpic.twitter.com/YTTt5Cs8yu

I couldn't find a recording of the session so I had to paraphrase. I interpreted her as saying that for journos who were trained to report "both sides" and {leave it there}, this era of calling out constant deception is taking some getting used to.

Yes, and I have heard her say similar things before. https://twitter.com/jayrosen_nyu/status/1008866259776262146 … But the point stands. It's not the 'report both sides' part that creates the discomfort, it's crediting both sides with good faith.

What’s complicated about reporting that one side is acting in bad faith? How would reporting on McCarthy in 50s or Pentagon at time of Pentagon Papers been different?

We need folks in your profession to get used to it, and more quickly. What is the saying? Good journalism is supposed to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable? More of that, please.

You guys don’t get it. By journalists buying into this liberal media bias years ago, they are partly responsible for the mess we are in.

And for those of us who consume news and are used to the trustworthiness ofmost mainstream outlets, it seems very odd and objectionable when the flat dishonesty is not called out.
