We are not "a few steps from The Handmaids Tale." I don't think this kind of fear-mongering helps anybody. https://twitter.com/Amy_Siskind/status/1011423623788318734 …

Whether anyone in a prominent position says anything, most of us can look at SCOTUS & count. We can look at what the current admin is doing to human beings seeking asylum. We see what's happening to actual children. The fear comes from events, not prominent ppl commenting.
-
FFS, our country is run by a man who was elected AFTER it came out that, by his own admission, he casually & routinely sexually assaults women. We're so far beyond that basic horror now, but as a rape survivor I can tell you that fact alone is absolutely terrifying.
-
That fear is not based on prominent ppl telling us to be afraid. It's based on being a woman, having experienced sexual assault, and watching over half the country knowingly elect an admitted predator.
-
The absolute terror that Roe V Wade will be overturned, that I will legally not have control over my own body & medical decisions, is not based in being told to be afraid. It's based in looking at SCOTUS, who's defended bodily autonomy & who hasn't, and basic math.
-
So maybe, just maybe, until YOUR rights, YOUR bodily autonomy is under threat, refrain from telling people, "it's not that bad" or suggesting our fear is just a result of being told to be afraid. It's deeply insulting as well as just plain incorrect.
-
Thank you, couldn't have said it better!!!!

I don’t need someone in a prominent position to tell me that a court that overturns Roe v Wade will set women’s reproductive rights back decades. Sure it’s not a red robe & white bonnet, but it’s still forced birth. And forced birth is some Gilead nonsense. So stop.
-
The problem is, when you read/watch the Handmaid’s Tale, you focus in on the mandatory clothes & authoritarianism & the theocracy. But I think women see it as a story about the loss of freedom & bodily autonomy & we’re a hell of a lot closer to that than you could understand.
-
I’m being told that getting a prescription filled may rely on the conscience of the pharmacist. I’m being told that whether or not my insurance pays for my reproductive healthcare may depend on the religion of my employer. And soon I may be told abortion is not an option. Gilead.

That right there, Brian. That's male privilege.

-
And with Roe v Wade now hanging in the balance today, don't you just know we took a step closer.

Is it your job to provide comfort? Do you not objectively see that there is much for many people to fear and maybe you don’t see it because you’re not a woman, black, an immigrant so much of this won’t impact you? This is kind of revealing.

Yo Brian, keep policing women’s fear and the validity of it. Because you as a white man know way better than we do

Brian, let me tell you that I am not basing my concerns on what people in prominent positions say. I am basing it on the actual POLICIES being passed by this Administration and the real world consequences of those policies on regular folks.
-
That a so called "journalist" would even use that language is proof of his total hackery.

Amen Brother Feign. Amen.
