We are not "a few steps from The Handmaids Tale." I don't think this kind of fear-mongering helps anybody. https://twitter.com/Amy_Siskind/status/1011423623788318734 …

Do you really not see the parallels? There were literally checkpoints on the road as June and Luke tried to leave. It didn’t happen all at once; it takes small steps

i see the parallels in every episode. but we're hundreds if not thousands of steps away. there've been checkpoints on roads in border areas for decades. i was so frustrated by the long lines at customs YESTERDAY when traveling btwn US and Canada. but it's not Handmaids Tale...

You deep repeating "hundreds if not thousands of steps away." It's absurd, Brian. This distance or process you're measuring is wholly arbitrary and ridiculous. The point is we are getting CLOSER and people's perceptions of how close differ according to their vulnerability.

By the time it affects your life enough to be “a few steps away from The Handmaid’s Tale,” those of us who are panicking about it now will probably be dead. Think about that as you reflect on why you’re wrong.

2,000 steps is only one mile - - so lots of us can see it coming and WE ARE TERRIFIED. How many steps away before you decide it’s a real problem? Once it’s too close, it might be too late. Are you willing to live with that? I mean, not YOU...you’ll be fine bc straight white male

You mean to tell me you have researched this and STILL think we are hundreds or thousands of steps away? So, which is it? a hundred or thousands? Count the number of negative changes since Trump before you answer that question.

It always surprises my friends and I (Canadians, Brits, Kiwis, Aussies) that we can see quite clearly the path our awesome neighbors to the South are going on, yet you do not seem to see it. And the few that see it are not doing anything. Is it the “boiling frog” metaphor?
