What this story also does: makes Peters part of the narrative. He's now the aggrieved and misunderstood NY Times reporter, joining Haberman, Thrush et al. We're bone weary from pandemic Trump normalization, and making reporters victims of the syndrome is the ultimate irony.

These are the same idiots who tell folks who were harassed on the internet to not feed the trolls. They’re intertwined with the problem. So, I’m not really interested in their shitty takes on justifying why they are being paid to push Trump’s bullshit narrative.

I continue to subscribe to the @nytimes, having re-upped after cancelling once already. But I find very little reason to consult it anymore, not being particularly interested in the White House as soap opera and the latest sampling of sentiment among “real” Americans.

Today’s column by Michelle Goldberg, on the other hand, is a gem. And I’d recommend reading, along with it, the column by Fintan O’Toole in today’s Irish Times.

NO. This is NOT "must read". Those stories have no value. Bubble reporters just love writing them. Nothing new is gleaned, no new information ever imparted (not even yours, Jer). MOST OF US do not support Trump and it would serve media well to remember that.

Another variant of horserace coverage. Is the message that readers shd take their political cues from this? Is that really the message you want to send, rather than having them follow their hearts and minds based on, idk, policy information the media could be providing instead?
