Our profession was not set up to deal with people of bad faith. Our idea of fairness is manipulated to amplify the deception.

I thought the entire point of journalism was to ferret out the truth even when people were hellbent on hiding it?
-
Journalists have published articles listing lies for years, but cries of "fake news" seek to discredit real media sources, and when the populous believes those cries, it doesn't matter if truth was ferreted out or not. Hundreds of articles disprove Trump's claims... to no effect
-
Go up the thread. Read the article. The way the press has been covering these issues is insufficient. If you report the administration is lying, but lead with headlines that don't make it clear it's a lie up front, you're just amplifying the lie.
-
If you're giving a repeated platform for known liars to lie, with only intermittent checks on their lying, you're amplifying the lie. If you're airing every single press briefing, where
@PressSec rolls her eyes & answers nothing & disparages the press, you're amplifying the lie. -
If you're treating "but her emails" with the same ferocity and intensity as the myriad Trump scandals, ranging from the fraud perpetrated by his family foundation to Trump University to shortchanging contractors to mob ties to white supremacy, you're amplifying the lie.
-
TODAY I saw multiple media outlets repeating the Trump administration lie that "there is no policy of separating families at the border" in their headlines, without saying clearly up front that that isn't true.
-
I have heard Trump admin officials make this comment in interviews, or Trump surrogates/talking heads make this comment in cable news panels, and no one is immediately stopping them and saying, "That is a lie. I will not allow you to repeat this lie on my show."

This goes for you too Brian.

And particularly for Jeff Zucker, who ruins CNN for me every day. “Let’s balance truth with lies.” Ugh.

Either cut off their access or treat them as hostile witnesses when you question them. But don't give them an easy platform to spread their propaganda. And stop letting them pivot, spin & filibuster with their endless stream of lies. Interrupt & force answers 2 the question asked

Requires intelligent interviewers. Otherwise yes.

About 2 years late. We figured that out in 2016. Most of the media still hasn’t.

Don't go to the daily WH "briefings". It's all lies anyway from start to finish. Let Sanders talk to an empty room. Seriously
-
I so wish they would do that.
-
It works only if there are no willing accomplices like Fox News. The lies will be broadcast regardless, so proper media must report them as lies
-
Imagine how it would piss off trump if no reporters would show up for the briefings. If the stations would stop broadcasting them. Only later highlight what is necessary or say more lies at today's briefing.Trump has an insane need for attention it would drive him crazy.
