Which news outlets "reported" she was "near death?" The White House shohld send links. The president should always be able to back up what he says.

You're proving my point. This is a really important distinction. Bad tweets are not the same as "reporting" published by a real news outlet. And I know you know that! Does Trump?

I think it was clear what the president meant but you're picking at that "important distinction" in order to absolve yourself from responsibility for helping to stoke these conspiracies by claiming Melania is "MIA" or "disappeared"

Is this accurate? Who "reported" this? "During her recovery from surgery they reported everything from near death, to facelift, to left the W.H. (and me) for N.Y. or Virginia, to abuse."

#FakeNewsMedia did several times by several of you. When an established journalist tweets a #FakeNews tweet about Melania what’s the difference between that tweet and a news report? Both the tweet and the report come from the mouth of #FakeNewsMedia and thus taken as #FakeNews

Why was CNN giving credence to this crap? Why did CNN ask the first lady's spox about conspiracy theories from what you said were random twitter people? CNN cannot sit here and float these stories and then absolve themselves from any connection to it.pic.twitter.com/xwJNZ0GJMP

Oh for heaven's sake we're not idiots. You et al were obviously suggesting something was amiss when you reported on it. You opened the door for the speculation, and you did it with purpose.

@brianstelter Do you not realize this is about decency? Not about the conspiracy theories? It isn't decent to raise this specter in the public eye, and it is not ethical for journalists covering politics to openly speculate about someone knowingly recovering from surgery.

You're trying to say that when these "journalists" go on their verified Twitter accounts, where they identify themselves as members of major news organizations, that what they're doing is NOT reporting? If it's not reporting, don't verify, don't ID your employer, etc. etc.
