The local sheriff gave them an interview 10 minutes before the accident. Wished them well & told them to be safe. Awful.
-
RIP gentlemen. These are heroes too when they are killed in action doing their job.

Condolences to the families of these brave journalists. This is as tragic as it is avoidable. The practice of putting reporters and camera operators and drivers in harm’s way to broadcast severe weather is completely unnecessary and should cease.
-
Read the article about the circumstances and delete your uninformed post. They were simply driving the van in not great weather and a tree fell on it.
-
Did YOU read it? AND I QUOTE, “The accident happened on Highway 176 in Polk County while they were covering the impact of heavy rain in that area.” THEY WERE OUT REPORTING ON THE STORM
-
My man, they were driving around, not nakedly braving a hurricane. Give me a break with the drama - it’s a freak tragedy; no one is negligent. They were “not being put in harm’s way” as you claim, unless you mean every time reporters drive for a story, they are being put at risk.

Such a noble but dangerous profession. This is the reason why i get so upset anytime
@realDonaldTrump chooses to vilify the news media. People are out there putting their lives on the line to bring us the news. May their souls rest in perfect peace. Sleep well gentlemen. - 1 more reply

Horrible. Rest easy gentlemen, your work here is done.
-
I’m sure the last thing they want is to be, ‘resting easy!’
-
No disrespect intended.

The purpose is reporting. You can’t report on a news event from the comfort of a BarcaLounger.

Yeah, it's tragic. No question. But journalism is a public service at its foundation. You go into it knowing you may have to put yourself into dangerous situations in order to inform the community. It's part of the job. You accept that when you get your press pass.

Can we PLEASE END the practice of sending journalists into really stupid unnecessary conditions to show us what a storm looks like? No one needs that information. What people need is instruction on how not to get killed by being outside in horrible weather.

Condolences to their families and friends. Another reason to salute our media folks - they risk their lives in pursuit of the truth and sometimes they lose them.
