“He stabbed me with that dagger!” “Sir, I believe that is a stiletto.” “Yes, but...” (dies) Sometimes arguing nomenclature is pointless.

At this point, there are so many bananas I personally cannot believe any apples actually exist.

Brian, I believe what John is getting at is - let’s not parse Trump while he endeavors to kill us all, huh?

Seriously
@brianstelter ? Do you not see the pathetic absurdity of trying to have an argument that “not everything” the leader of the free world says is a lie? Stop and think about what you’re saying. What?! What is HAPPENING to this world right now? And how are you helping?!?! -
What do you expect Brian to say?
-
That Trump is a lying liar. Pretty sure he did say that. However, to tweet
@johncusack as if JC is overreacting is absurd. Why cast doubt on the fact that the president lies almost constantly by picking apart common vernacular? Why antagonize someone you KNOW is speaking truth?! -
If I say “this took forever” or “it weighs a million lbs” you understand. We ALL understood
@johncusack.@brianstelter basically said “don’t exaggerate, now, SOMETIMES he tells the truth.” That’s the bar? Not literally “everything” is a lie? THAT should stop you in your tracks.

Mr. Stelter, it doesn't matter at this point. He's lied so often that as a citizen I am unwilling to believe anything he says. It doesn't matter if he is confused, misinformed, delusional, etc. Once a leader uses lying as a means of control, trust is gone. Trust lost is game over

So the risk if we label everything a lie is not that some journalist will be accused of losing their thesaurus. The risk is that we dilute the meaning. That's an argument for examining and carefully reporting. But, he's a LIAR, stain on the office, nevertheless.

If you take each statement in isolation, presumably you'll find some percentage that are accurate. What tends to be understated, given the character of news cycle reporting, is that taken as a whole, Trump's statements amount to an assault on the possibility of truth.
-
Trump to me resembles a stereotypical organized crime figure who is comfortable as a showman for the cameras and at the same time adept at keeping secret what's going on below decks.

Reading these replies, I’m reminded of the old statement, “ask a dumb question and you get”a whole lot of brilliant answers. Whatever you want to call it Brian, yup...POTUS lies pretty much all the time.

Might be easier for y'all in the media to just point out true things he has said. Won't take nearly as much time.

It’s not our job to pigeonhole it: if it’s false, given his track record, we are entitled to call it a “lie”. He’s the damned President after all. He wants to explain or offer mitigating evidence, fine. Until then, it’s a lie.
