Going on CNN with @brianstelter to talk about Trump lying and false-claim-ing
-
-
No boo, that's a lie. An intentional misleading which is a lie.
-
this is what my A block was all about today. IMHO, we should distinguish between different types of dishonesty. a 1 alarm fire versus a 5 alarm fire. i acknowledged that folks frequently disagree on which is whichhttps://www.cnn.com/videos/cnnmoney/2018/05/27/stelter-how-to-tell-when-trump-lies-rs-sot.cnn/video/playlists/reliable-sources-highlights/ …
-
I disagree. When one is a pathological liar--the point is to confuse and undermine. You're playing into that and you should do better.
-
Your view was represented on today's "Reliable." I'm surprised you don't see value in, say, distinguishing from a "dumb" misstatement and a disturbing, dangerous one. They're not all the same.
-
I recognize that the "dumb" comments can still be destabilizing & make people feel like there's an assault on truth. but not everything Trump says is a lie. Let's not give up on nuance!
-
Nobody is asking you to “give up on nuance.” But when you lot can’t call out the obvious, demonstrable lies for what they are, then we think nuance is just a shield you’re hiding behind to insulate you from accountability.

So you call a lie being told literally in the very moment it is proven to be lie (IT WAS RAINING) a fib!? God help help us. Toss a log on the fire bro, the gaslighting flame was getting low...

here's what i said on the show. please judge that.https://twitter.com/ReliableSources/status/1000757145300799489 …

So almost like trump, you only want us to judge “some” of the things you said. What about your tweet? When a 70+ yr old man stand at a podium in front of thousands saying it sunny WHILE it’s raining, that’s a lie. Not a fib. He delusional or lying, both are horrible.pic.twitter.com/FtBbUrH3wj

That is not a fib. He knew it was cloudy but didn't want it to be the case so he LIED. Watching people try to make excuses fills me with so much anger and frustration. I would not allow my child to lie the way he does. Why does the media want to make excuses for him?

So now you're gaslighting on his behalf? Lies are what we hear from this 71 year old man. "Fibs" are what we hear from a 4 year old.

Even if he didn't know specifically about the briefing, he was still lying because he confidently pronounced the story fake news.
-
He either knew the base claim (that June 12 would be hard to manage) was true, or he knew that he had no idea if it was true. He either knew about the briefing or had no idea if the NYT had a real source. Either way it's a lie.

The potus should be held to the highest standard. A fib is a lie. A falsehood is a lie.

my god these semantics are mind blowing. you know these are lies Brian. I know it sucks that we have to call him out for so many, but that's where we are. The sugarcoating does not help.

Children fib, adults lie.

Considering he has a mass of followers who would believe him unquestioningly if he were to say the sky is purple, I’d say there are no such things as harmless Trump “fibs” at this point.
