I think some criticism on left of colleagues like @maggieNYT is rooted in the frustration of not having any actual power in Washington right now, and few concrete ways of stopping or opposing Trump.

No no no. Just tell the truth. Your mutual defense league against the public is gross.

so you're denying that trump critics are frustrated with lack of actual power/ways to stop trump, and thus they challenge the press to be more aggressive on their behalf? you're denying that reality?

Brian, Maggie has absolutely made it a habit to normalize Trump and Trumpism. Even setting aside the issue of her refusing to say Trump "lies," she was right in front of defending NYT for the repeated glowing, normalizing profiles of Nazis & not getting why everyone was so upset.

And again, this is part of larger, deeply upsetting pattern where legacy media just circles the wagons while the digital media repeatedly yells at them for refusing to see what's right in front of them. Like repeatedly running glowing profiles of how Nazis Are Just Like Us.

Exactly. Perhaps if Maggie Haberman, and others at the NYT admitted their role in the 2016 election coverage, and acknowledge their failure to hold Donald Trump to not just the same standard as Hillary Clinton, but as every other presidential candidate in history... Alas ...

I would disagree. And suggest that those on the left AND the right AND the middle are just really, really tired of euphemisms for lying.

nope. it is that those with actual influence bend over backward to give cover for those doing the damage. from "both sides" to covering complete bad faith as if true, the press so wants to be sren as impartial that truth is damaged. "it's out there."

In which a @nytimes reporter frames truth as a partisan political fight. Journalism is supposed to report the truth regardless of partisan considerations, not refuse to do so and say whichever party gets the most people to believe their version "wins." https://twitter.com/nickconfessore/status/1000763188479250432 …

Aw Brian, Brian, Brian. We have brains and eyes. When we see the reporter in question call Hillary’s campaign/DNC liars but then not use that word when Trump blatantly lies we call it out. We just desire consistency. That is not the same thing dude. Do better @brianstelter.
