President Trump is a liar. This has been well-documented. He misleads the public constantly. But: Not everything he says is a lie. I think we need to keep distinguishing between deflections, exaggerations and straight up lies.http://www.snappytv.com/tc/8062521/5606050 …

Don’t you think it’s a sad state of affairs when we, as a nation, require a sliding scale to determine how much of what our elected leader says is true? I feel like even having a scale, is a green light for Trump to keep lying. There’s no consequences for it in the media.

It's happening more and more. We need a list of those in media calling a LIE A LIE. Nicole Wallace on @DeadlineWH did the other day. I think Tapper has done so but I shouldn't mention names off the top of my head. Need FACTS as it happens

Maybe try to avoid the role of #ChaosAgent? Love you, but Trump & partners are deploying wartime techniques based on #GerasimovDoctrine & #HitlersPlaybook. Treating #LieGate and other gaslighting campaigns as a fun topic that deserves exploration of both sides is not helpful.

This isn't about being fair to Trump or holding him accountable, this is about journalists being able to maintain their own credibility. Trump doesn't operate with this level of nuance. His entire MO is to lie or shift blame. When he gets statistics wrong he's not misinformed...

He's being deliberate when he's making these statements and he has zero interest in the facts. Even when given the facts he dismissed them so it's not misinformed. Its lying. You're giving him cover to muddy the waters by assigning this level of nuance.

So, was it exaggeration or a lie to say the Inauguration was the largest ever? Exaggeration or a lie to say millions voted fraudulently? Deflection or a lie to say Dems are “nowhere on DACA”?
