NYT story claimed President and aides were at odds. NYT said POTUS thinks summit date difficult but possible whereas aide said “impossible.” Except aide didn’t say that. NYT said WH official said something he didn’t say. When caught, moved goalpost to “WH aides exist.”

The Times did not quote the aide saying impossible. It was the Times' understandable interpretation of the aide's statements and tone. Others came away with very similar interpretations. That's a key part of this. Also, a president shouldn't lie about newsrooms making up sources.

Why go with "tone" when you can quote their ACTUAL words!?🤔

I‘ve probably been a journalist longer than you. We don’t “interpret,” especially with a touchy subject like this. We quote word-for-word and let the reader/viewer interpret. And if you’re offering commentary and you aren’t 100% sure, you get clarification. You dishonest hack.

Look Stelter, here's the thing, you are a big time broadcast news expeditor who is also a big time fabulist and manufacturer of a defective product. It's all public domain stuff. That makes you, basically, a joke.

Brian - we all heard the audio. He didn't say it was "impossible" - never used the word, & basically characterized meeting the date as challenging. Not impossible. Huge difference. You say they didn't "quote the aide saying impossible" but what would you think he said from this?pic.twitter.com/Bp4w8efRu0

A White House source who said “impossible” doesn’t exist. Welcome to advanced spin class proggies! Definition of “is,” remember? Your tactics turned against you, and you help highlight your own lies!! LOL!
