We need to hear from the CDC and NIH in a live news conference, with no elected officials within five hundred yards, and public health and science journalists in the room rather than those who cover politics. And the stations should cover it live because the airwaves are public.

Senator Schatz,
Science journalist and j-prof. here. I completely agree with the sentiment. But I wish to point out that for years--across multiple administrations--CDC, NIH, and other fed. agencies have systematically blocked reporters' unfettered access to scientists. 1/

Agencies like the CDC, FDA, and EPA have press strategies in place that prevent government scientists from speaking frankly to journalists about issues of public import and/or to throttle the flow of information to the press as a means of controlling the "message." 2/

Sen Schatz & are refusing to send more testing kits to CA & we only have 200 while CA DHS is monitoring at least 8400 Californians for #Coronavirus!
If CA GDP drops bc of spread of virus due to CDC lack of response, the whole country’s economy/GDP drops!
