The essence of personal identity is the mind. Shouldn’t we talk about people’s identity rather than their sex or gender? Not what people “identify as” but what their true identity is. People’s true identity is not their outward appearance but what the mind involuntarily dictates.

Sorry Brian but people can identify as they wish. but legal protections are not about identity, they are about material realities that are measurable in some way. Can I get a blue badge for parking because I identify as disabled.? No, rightly I cannot.

No but you can get a birth certificate that shows a different sex than the one you were born with and you are then entitled to the legal protections that go with that.

      1. Yes but my point is, that to get a blue badge I would have to be disabled and there are measurable criteria for what would constiute a disability. Self id means that a person can change their birth certificate with no measurable criteria.

      2. And the bigger problem is that ANYONE could then use a sex protected space, whether or not they have changed their birth certificate. It would be hardly be reasonable to genuine transexuals or to women, to expect them to ask ppl using these spaces for a birth certificate.

      3. I was in Manchester airport loos last December when a large drunken male came into the Ladies loos. The women in there were alarmed and all spontaneously agreed to wait there until he left. It turned out he was drunk and had made a mistake but you can see the problem.

I see that problem. I don’t see how it’s going to be made worse

Why don't you understand? Any man will be able to claim he identifies as a woman, f(even if he doesn't) for e.g. you could claim this and gain entrance to a female sauna/changin room/toilet etc. The law wont require that anyone presents a birth certifcate.

Because self-ID doesn’t mean what you think it means. If it comes in, it would mean you can get a birth certificate more easily than you can now - nothing more, nothing less. End of story. You don’t need one to go into a changing room (well I didn’t this morning at the gym!)

At my local pool, only women can use the female changing rooms. If you went in there, you would be asked to leave. This will change if the law changes and if you are unaware of this, then you need more information because I have had that conversation with my local pool.

I get you are tring to be funny but I genuinely don;'t get the joke. Please explain. Do you mean I am making this up? Because I am not. There are other documented examples I can give you, although not just now as I have to give someone a lift.

Change in the law on gender recognition certificates will make no difference to use of changing rooms

Someone very close to me, a 17 yr old female as just started identifying as a boy. She does not look or dress like a boy - she has just promised her parents she will use female protected spaces and she has agreed. It is about safety first.
