Shambles Audience apparently encouraged to heckle; panelists set up to fail; horrendously inept host; gaslighting Germaine Greer to make her look senile Someone has done an analysis of time: Caitlyn & Monroe dominated, Sarah & Germaine drowned out The (irrelevant) Caitlyn show

Here's the data from last night's #genderquake debate Are the feminists right? Or the TAs? It's all broken down by talk time, and time being interrupted plus number of times interrupted. For your delectation I watched the whole thing AGAIN and me 4 hours to make notes. pic.twitter.com/ksXHiS8UhR

The women heckling were not helpful and I was thinking "idiots". It strikes me that stifling the debate like this serves in a similar way to the met tactic of "Kettling". If you detain a crowd for long enough, some in that crowd get fed up and respond aggressively.

Good analogy. Proving a free bar beforehand for the audience makes me suspicious of Channel 4’s motivations.

Thanks Brian. Very frustrating indeed. Free bar is fuel to the fire on an already hostile debate with too much heat. What we're the producers thinking?

Yes, it was a bit of a car crash. No time or space given to develop any points made - too sensationalist & Jenner given way too much airtime seeing as she just rambled on about irrelevant stuff. Newman was an appalling chair. The heckling was dreadful. A great opportunity missed.

Overwhelming reaction to #Genderquakedebate on C4 was it was a lost opportunity. The chairing by Newman was very poor wrt framing pertinent questions, enabling parity of representation, ensuring all the panel stayed on topic & able to articulate a point without interruption.

Hugely disappointing that rather promoting respectful debate there was a purported effort to encourage heckling. For what purpose? Entertainment?https://twitter.com/sianho/status/994355208057688064?s=21 …

A lot of tweets re: heckling on #Genderquakedebate. Seems to have been very much encouraged by C4. I really wish this opportunity for discussion could have been managed and hosted more constructively. https://twitter.com/stephenwhittle/status/994313490272784385 …

The show was pitched to be entertainment. It was set up throughout to spark angry reactions from both sides. It was not about debate. There was a lack of range of views from trans side. Honestly? Did no one any favours, and just made situation worse. Irresponsible from c4.

Thought it was a shame that we didn't hear from invited audience members (didn't like the heckling but could sense their frustration with the one sided 'debate'- Ditum and was interrupted,Greer was set up). Saw no thought given to women's real concerns by transpeople. All me me me
