I'm just asking you where the transphobic nonsense is.

You said "Nothing said in that meeting made me think they were anti trans rights" That is support. That is a comment about the group.
-
Or - perhaps he's right and they're not anti-trans, ever consider that? What rights do you think they are against, exactly?
-
And... blocked. I guess
@HickeyWriter doesn't want to have a conversation based on reason and logic, then. Do they think if they stick their fingers in their ears long enough, the people who want to discuss & find a solution that works, without crapping on women, will go away?

And the people you *haven't* met are, I repeat, *your own party's LGBT+ group*. Unsurprisingly, if the only trans people you'll meet with are the ones who are willing to be in a room with a hate group, you will come away with a positive impression of that group.

Remember how you felt when Tim said the thing he said, multiple times? You’re our Tim now.
-
And if you think we’re showing poor judgement taking you to task over this in public… We learned it from you, Mr Former President.

There were no people in masks. The people in masks were TERFs. TERFs do violence. Big brother has always been a woman

Have these trans women, by any chance, been Kristina Harrison, Debbie Hayton, and Miranda Yardley? These three trans people represent very much a minority view in the LGBTQ+ community.

You're basically the equivalent of the couple of gay guys who were on the No side when Ireland was having its same-sex marriage referendum https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/why-ill-be-voting-no-to-samesex-marriage-even-though-im-gay-30953906.html … . Like them, you have a right to speak, but your position is very much a minority and that should be highlighted.

@UKHouseofLords@LibDems support@brianpaddick for "supporting people's right to free speech & assembly." In a free democracy politicians must not be decried for this stance.#sexmatters#waronwomen#wawag#wpuk#weneedtotalkThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

They do say they "want to protect trans rights" but their view of "trans rights" tends to be about protection of external nonconformance while publicly identified as their sex assigned at birth.
-
While this kind of rights is indeed important for many people, myself included, it is by far not the only thing actually needed in a society safe for all trans people.
-
Are two different things being debated? A set of rights/issues specific to transwomen/transmen; and a separate set of rights, to be addressed in different ways, for other trans people? Non-binary ppl aren't interested in access to stuff specifically for women, presumably?
-
There is no single movement but in a very broad way I'd agree, except it's MUCH messier about who is interested in what. Many WPUK types seem to support NB-type rights BUT also deny NB identities, and instead read binary trans women as what we'd call NB or perhaps "third gender".
-
There's an important distinction too between practical stuff and what's going on other people's heads - none of us are allowed inside another person's head - what we do and say can be governed by the law - but never what we think.
-
Agreed. And speech regulation is a tool that has to be used VERY carefully. It's one thing what goes on at the workplace, another in the university lecture, yet another in Hyde Park.

I wanted to make a mild and reasonable response to this bizarre attack on you, Brian, but it seems I’m blocked by the writer - although I have no idea who they are and have never interacted with them. Not a great sign, to be fair.
-
This level of intolerance & closure is something I’ve never seen before in my life. A whole new scenario of fragility & rigidity of thought.

‘End of’ - thinking...
-
End of. End of willingness to explain how your logic plays out. End of preparedness to countenance even the possibility of any conflicts of rights. End of recognisable liberalism. Another party finds its own way to extremity.

Also, likes for the TW=W tweet so far: 3 people who present as men, 1 as a woman.
