The problem with refusing to listen & understand your opponents’ arguments is not being able to effectively counter them or to explain why there actually isn’t anything for them to worry about. And please don’t label people you’ve never met, and whose views you’ve never heard.

Brian i am embarrassed to say that I had no idea who you were until a few weeks ago. I am heartened by your determination to listen and understand the multiple perspectives of this debate.

Well. So far I see a laudable willingness to listen. But this tweet looks to me as if he's looking for an opportunity to educate women that they have "nothing to worry about". It's about the paradigm shift of "woman is whoever says they are", and the unintended consequences 1/

And you wonder why no-one will engage, when those who do get attacked by both sides? As a man, I would never try to "educate women" about their concerns. Some people would rather perpetuate the argument than try to find a solution. I will ignore those people. Don't be one of them

Thank you for your reply. I was merely reacting to the wording of your tweet (and from experience) - but I know it's a minefield trying to communicate on the issue. To be clear I am very appreciative that you're persisting to engage in this climate.

Free speech is a cornerstone of democracy and freedom of expression is a fundamental human right. Women saying that biological sex is not the same as an innate sense of, or feeling of, gender is not hate speech. Why are women being silenced? Why are you being pressured to resign?

I'm not in your party and would never vote for it, but respect to you for standing up for what is right and condemning violence, hate and refusing to listen. I doubt these activists represent all trans people. Many trans people are scared of being pilloried if they disagree

You say that as if the people you're talking to haven't heard the arguments before. I don't need to listen to the likes of Nigel Farage et al. because I've heard all their bullshit before. I don't need to listen to flat-Earthers because I've heard their bullshit too.

Refusing to listen to people doesn't mean you don't know what they have to say, when they repeatedly make it clear what their position is.

Trouble is when their reply is a continual chant of "penis penis penis" the conversation begins to feel a bit awkward. Do you really think it's worth debating with these ppl, Brian?

Most will defend the right to sex protections of women all women. Cis and Trans women deserve that protection and same safe spaces. What will hopefully never be defended is unnecessary discrimination against trans men and women excused as a "necessary evil"

Isn't that exactly what you're doing, though, by making assumptions about trans people you've never met? Most of the people here on either side do not share your belief that your status as a cisgender male gives you the right to tell the rest of us what to think or do.
