"trust me" could also mean any number of things, and it's disconcerting when you ask someone a direct question like "are you about to legitimize transphobic rhetoric?" and their answer isn't just "no."

That wasn’t the question and you know it. For the last time, I am not going to discuss substantive issues online any more. I am taking this offline. I don’t care which side of the argument anyone is on, the answer is the same. Not being trusted by either side may not be all bad.

i don't know anything of the sort. look i realize that i'm not a constituent of yours and that you don't owe me a good faith response, but trans issues aren't a no-stakes rhetorical game for me. i think it's reasonable for trans folks to feel skeptical and to desire clarity.
