#ISupportTransEqualityBecause I imagine having the courage to be open about being born in the wrong body, the courage to transition to the right sex & then the hurt & pain when people then deny you’re the sex you’ve always truly been, despite all you’ve been through.

But what scientific fact supports this notion? Happy to support those who are gender non- conforming, but that does not mean that men should be able to enter female prisons, etc. Open your eyes with regards to the damage Lupron (i.e. puberty blockers) can do - even in adults.

So the NHS & other medical professionals spend £millions on gender reassignment on the basis of a complete myth. The government allows people to change the sex on their birth certificates & passports to support fantasies. Surely there’s more to it?

I don't think so. There used to be a fashion for lobotomies, many years later it was found they were causing brain injuries. People who don't feel they fit in with sexist stereotypes need support and acceptance. What they don't need is off-label chemo drugs causing infertility

My understanding is the majority who seek to transition are adults. I have concerns about children making life-changing decisions but I would want to consider the two issues separately if possible.

They are two separate issues, but there are still serious complications with the surgeries that adults have. For example, I have just tweeted about a phalloplasty surgeon who caused tears in the bowels and urethras of his 'transmen' patients.

They cannot be separated. It is well established that childhood is inevitably influenced by adult society. Trans activists in the public eye are openly campaigning for earlier social and medical transition of dysphoric children often citing suicide statistics.

Despite this GIDS advocates for a more cautionary and nuanced approach as they accept that the body of available evidence is incomplete http://gids.nhs.uk/evidence-base

Dr Polly Carmichael. GIDS Director and Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Has publicly spoken about the pressures on their service to support a purely affirmational approach. Additionally she recognises that social influence may well be playing a factor.

So do ask yourself who benefits from an affirmation model? Who benefits from repeating a suicide statistic to demand an affirmation only model that conflicts with GIDS assertion that 'suicide in dysphoric children) is incredibly rare'?

Children don’t make irreversible decisions. However they do best when their expressions of their identity are accepted and supported.
