#guncrime spike in 2016 clearly visible in both MPS data and @Ldn_Ambulance gun injuries data; injuries still low in context of time seriespic.twitter.com/saEblOG8dU

His job!! Really, who employs him?? . So he doesn't have an opinion? Not able to express views on policing. Stick to academic papers & circles then and not SM.
What's interesting is that stop and search is just about the only subject I discuss on Twitter that gets this kind of response, and then almost exclusively from retired cops - pretty relentlessly since I joined Twitter.
I've written abt eg pay, mental health, the impact of declining funding & resources, the case for spit hoods, why arrests have fallen, misconduct, promotion, etc and always try to reflect police perspectives. These are almost invariably well received.
And I have read some of them but it's your engagement on SM that doesn't reflect much empathy etc just a constant questioning of S&S. Desirable, perhaps but a sense of balance & appreciation.
And yet, off the back of the same data, I've had some really interesting discussions today with serving cops about why SS has fallen in their forces, which have been focused on the realities officers are facing, notably around the huge squeeze on resources v demand.
And, to add, also the implications of changes to tech (eg increased bureaucracy, complexity), the impact of supervision (including in respect of ethics), performance frameworks and so on.
Maybe if the cuts had been less severe the impact of those complexities might not be so fraught
Undoubtedly
I totally accept that but some academics won't accept any view but their own
Evidence to support that? If this is about the existence or otherwise of a SS arrest target, it's not my 'view' but what documentation and serving officers have told me went on. I appreciate you don't accept that.
I do not accept that @metpoliceuk would promote an unlawful/unethical practice, no
Problem is he's NOT objective... For two or three years now he's twisted & turned to deny violent crime is rising or there's any correlation with cuts to S&S or police numbers. He's anti S&S definitely. And I'd say he's anti-street policing too...
