Sadly effective leadership has long since left the police. Upper echelons of command too busy looking after own careers to care about looking after and leading rather than managing their officers
When I was borough commander they tried to changed the resource allocation formula & reduce Lambeth establishment. I argued publicly this was unacceptable & decision was reversed. They got me back for it in the end though!
You can always win the battle but will never win the war. Just takes more senior officers to keep their integrity and fight the battles rather than look to the next rung.
That would certainly help! Compare and contrast Govt / media response to #CrisisInNHS (where senior bosses speak out in numbers about it) with their response to #CrisisInPolicing (where they don't)...

Don't forget Mrs May's ultimate goal is to slash policing to the bone as soon as possible then privatise as much as possible. Private security patrolling streets at minimum wage and zero pension rights. NHS already taken to a point forcing a pause in this policy. PAUSE!!!!!
I'm not sure what her plan is... Apart from destroying the police I don't think she actually has any idea what comes next... She's just doing it out of sheer anti-police prejudice & malice, not for any greater purpose...

I agree she is anti police. But I don't believe for a second that she is not working to a plan. The result if that plan will leave police akin to private security guards, and a massive profit for someone. Both mainstream parties working to this end.
Labour gave manifesto commitment at last election to reverse the cuts with 10,000 cops replaced immediately & work from there. @LouHaigh very supportive of police & anti cuts in Commons. Absolutely NO grounds to claim they are working to same agenda as Tories at all!
With respect. Lambeth and Southwark wont have much more than a 1000 cops thanks to the policies of the government your party propped up for 5 years.
My party pledged an extra £1.2bn for policing at the last general election, more than any other political party because I argued cuts had gone too far. Which party did you vote for?
I voted Labour. Not a massive fan of Corbyn but just want this lot out. They have decimated the job I love. Not to mention my pension. 20 years service and now another 19 years to do.
Also it will be 1500 coppers not 2000 looking after "the most challenging policing environment in Europe" and Southwark.
Also given that the counties have been defunded worse than the @metpoliceuk I think any repeat of 2011 will have a very different outcome.
So basically Met Ch. Supts are running medium size provincial forces. That'll work
Ah but this lack of supervision across the board will 'empower' officers to make their own decisions where they can be assured of full management support should they drop in the sh*t.
Oh yeah. I remember on my Inspector's course being told the Duty Officer answered a query every 7 seconds. Easy peasy
Those making the decisions and implementing it do not care. They're never seen on the shop floor to be seen by workers
Exactly Brian .....
It’s about money not efficiency
That was a tough gig anyway.
