I disagree. The guidance in my view is wrong and the law does not preclude it . Smell of cannabis is sufficient to stop search and I will continue to encourage my Officers to use it particularly on those criminals who are engaged in serious and organised crime.https://twitter.com/DannyShawBBC/status/940488066342576128 …

Who's payroll are you on, sir? The majority of the Australian population do not want legalisation of illicit substances and most certainly do not want another over regulated, heavily taxed item bankrolling Australia's learned helplessness epidemic.

The UK political system may be broken. Politicians advocating for the legalisation of drugs whilst being more than happy for people to be jailed for free expression of personal opinion. Is the ability to get stoned more important than free speech? Who's bloody side are you on?

Then lobby the government... Police are here to enforce existing law (making drugs illegal to possess) and not to appease your ideologies. Completely legitimate tactic as is breathalysing drivers that smell of alcohol.
-
Point is police often don’t enforce existing law & in some Force areas, they don’t. I’ve already proposed a change in law in
@UKHouseofLords to legalise possession of all drugs.

I agree with this opinion as a long term goal. Being able to teach young people how to use drugs as safely as possible is impeded, particularly in schools - it's an illegal activity. In the meantime our police on the front line should still make use all their senses.

Try representing the MAJORITY as you are supposed to rather than catering to whoever is bankrolling you. I certainly hope you are not trying to legalise imported Chinese cannabis. Try following the example of the police. They do represent the public interest. And protect it.
