I’ve a confession to make. Post-referendum I didn’t care that much if we left the EU - it’s nowhere near perfect. Now I realise the damage it will cause. Some will be short-term, hitting the poorest hardest, some, in terms of global status, we will never completely recover from.

What if you were never where they were and have no idea where they were/are coming from?

You need to try to understand where people are coming from. It’s called empathy.

Yes, very good point. I am saddened by the vitriol in response to your tweet. I find it inappropriate and unnecessary. Much of what's emerging now *was* knowable (and u prob should have known) but that doesn't mean everyone who didn't know was wilfully ignorant. We need bridges.

I agree that ‘FFS’ is not an argument that ever won anyone over - but i think the frustration youre witnessing on the replies comes from the fact that we read you ‘dropped the ball’ - and would not hve expected that from you. It was immed after the referendum the struggle began

I understand the emotion & frustration and the shocking revelation that I’m human. There are other important issues, for which I have responsibility in the Lords, that diverted my full attention from Brexit. Thankfully I didn’t have the ball. We have a great EU team who do.

But the truth is that leavers behaved stupidly. It is impossible to argue with stupidity.
