My tweet was also a personal statement of how I feel, mostly that I’m a proud supporter of a European project that has helped bring & preserve peace on our continent—a message I believe is often forgotten.

Aaron is right though. The reason Brexit happened is because progressive politicians were half hearted about defending the EU. Applying the "it's not perfect" criteria on anything is not a good idea, and it is great that you realise it now, but it is rather too late.
