Please explain. EU citizens cannot be stopped from entering Ireland (free movement of people) & if no border, they can then go to Northern Ireland & from there to the rest of the UK. So how do we stop uncontrolled EU immigration through Ireland after Brexit? Asking for a friend.
Free movement of people means EU citizens have...free movement. Checks of EU citizens at internal borders (including at U.K. border & Irish border) consists of checking ID against travel document (usually electronically) i.e. does this passport belong to this person. End of.

(unless individual flagged for crime/terrorism, of course)

Which is exactly what Ireland currently do.

Were not in Schengen. Never have been. There have always been passport requirements.

Really? “If you are from a country whose citizens can enter the UK with a national ID card in lieu of a passport, then yes, you can fly to the UK with your national ID card and no passport. Those countries are the countries of the EU and the EEA, plus Switzerland.”

1/ But clearly we wont be accepting EU ID cards post Brexit. Id agree, there may be EU ID card carrying travellers, travelling to NI from ROI (if ROI maintains EEA ID card scheme), but they wouldnt be able cross to the mainland due to current carrier controls.
