Please explain. EU citizens cannot be stopped from entering Ireland (free movement of people) & if no border, they can then go to Northern Ireland & from there to the rest of the UK. So how do we stop uncontrolled EU immigration through Ireland after Brexit? Asking for a friend.

So why ask the question for 'your friend'? And it's not check mate at all. The country voted to leave the EU. If that means we need to perform passenger ID checks on ferries from Northern Ireland, then that's what we do.

That’s an internal border between two parts of the U.K. and understandably unacceptable to the majority in Northern Ireland.

And it’s unacceptable to the rest of the UK (the majority) that we don’t have a border. So what we do is compromise like we have already. No border on the Island of Ireland but in return has to be some sort elsewhere
