Been discussing how police deal with someone suspected of trying to swallow drugs. Anyone offer and insights into decision making? >

      > Is it addressed in training? Would different teams have different approaches? Officers ever instructed on how to deal (& by whom?) etc

No formal training, but new cops schooled in how to deal by more experienced colleagues? Differences in local practice betn forces?

If wraps of cocaine in the mouth, danger of heart attack if swallowed & packages break. Potentially life saving (not just evidential) action

Wld you expect risks to be balanced (a) to be written down in policy anywhere, (b) form part of training? And p'haps (c) medically endorsed?

Are serving officers still taught about “positional asphyxia”? Oxygen debt from struggle can’t be paid back if breathing is inhibited->death

Has been suggested to me that, at least previously, officers working plain clothes targeting know dealers, trained to prevent swallowing

Interested to know what you mean by 'lines have blurred' - as in evidential issues have grown in relative importance in practical terms?

As part of formal training, or something less formal - eg by colleagues, supervisors?
