Deployment of troops on our streets in #OperationTemperer is concerning. Suggests failure of intelligence. Stopping = better than mopping uphttps://twitter.com/prformativcontr/status/867132221462900736 …

Troops replace police on static posts like Parliament & other palaces. Armed police deployed to events & railway stations. Precautionary.

Is extreme measure (not since 1917) by PM who slashed police budgets. And police force who spy on journos & ppl like me. Misuse of resources

Soldiers deployed at Heathrow (including tanks you'll remember) in 1994 & 2003 because of terrorist threat & at Iranian Embassy Siege 1980

Specific locations not citywide. Might not make us feel safer, nor be safer. Am not big police fan but slashing ££ so much was shortsighted.

Real issue with cutting police budgets is reduction in community policing - loss of trust & confidence - reduction in community intelligence

Brian ,I would argue loss occurred well before that. Intro of PCSO saw cops removed from streets, CCTV used as patrol of towns , no cops out

Personally PCSOs not best option - police should have direct community contact. CCTV good for post-event investigation, not for prevention.

Totally agree, you were policing when cops withdrawn from centres patrolling and CCTV was used with radios to police. I warned on PCSOs
