I’ve looked long & hard at the issues around the GRA. I’ve spoken to @Womans_Place_UK & many others. I’ve spent weeks listening & agonising over these issues but it was time to be honest about what I really believe. You may think I’m wrong but that’s my honestly held belief.

This isn't just about safeguards though. Many older women have said that they will avoid situations where their dignity & privacy cld be compromised. Muslim women and girls also fear their ability to participate in education, activities & community life wld be severely affected.
-
In a separate tweet I said I wouldn't feel comfortable changing or undressing in the company of female strangers. I'm sure the discomfort would be mutual. It's not academic. There's a growth in unisex facilities even where it breaks existing laws (Liverpool Council please note).

The whole point of sex self ID is THERE ARE NO SAFEGUARDS. Safeguards are deemed transphobic. Sex self ID resulted in rapist Karen White/Steven Woods being housed in a women’s prison where he sexually assaulted 4 women within days.

But we're being told that this is just a change to GRA and no impact on EA. if you accept there's any impact relating to Safeguarding then Sex self ID must only be introduced once impact studies have taken place and work alongside strengthening EA. Or accept it's flawed proposal
-
We're told that, but it simply isn't true. Read what the EHRC have to say on the matter, just over half way down on this page... https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/our-work/news/our-statement-sex-and-gender-reassignment-legal-protections-and-language …

Difficult to understand how Brian can reach conclusion it’s ok yet recognise need for additional safeguarding for women?
-
Yeah, it’s either one or the other

Self ID will get rid of any safeguarding. *That* is what women are worried about. You haven’t understood our isssues at all have you?

The problem is that when you get onto the safeguarding issue, which all sensible people know is so important, the extreme TRAs scream abuse at you. I've even seen the slogan "safeguarding is transphobic"!
-
problem is whenever you try to discuss this with those against GRA it’s clear that their only aim is to completely remove trans women from their lives - that’s it - you simply cannot debate, they will not budge, so faced with that what else can trans do, so yes that’s transphobia
-
That's not true at all!

We already have them. They're called SEX based rights as set out in the EA 2010. Gender identity should NEVER be a protected characteristic b/c it's subjective and psychological.

But when women try to talk about safeguards they’re called terfs and hounded off the Internet, accused of hate speech, doxxed and generally abused.

The current GRA process offers safeguards!

I'm not sure sex-based safeguards are possible if sex is redefined as whatever someone says they are.
