As a former senior police officer & a politician, if, as the PolFed Chairman says "no member of the public will ever see a spit guard until they have spat at one of my colleagues", then I support their use in such circumstances (even though you can’t get HIV from spit).

True you can't get HIV but you can get Hep C. But like too many politicians you're missing the bigger issue Mr Paddick. It's humiliating and degrading to be spat on. End of, regardless of risk of any disease. Effective, cheap prevention denied to officers.

Please read what I said. I support he use of spit hoods for operational officers in the circumstances described by the Police Federation Chair. Don’t stereotype.
