Marx: a person’s objectivity about a problem increases in direct proportion to their distance from the problem...
-
-
-
Not my first choice in terms of ideas!
-
It’s the governments and the vast majority of SLT...
-
I meant Marx (unless you mean Groucho!)
-
The truth is the truth... it matters not whom said it?
-
You need to understand the feelings of your officers if you’re going to be a leader. It’s not all about objectivity.
-
Sorry disagree. The first duty of a police officer is to the truth.

Not been spat on have we? Oh and I think everyone knows you were a “ senior police officer”
-
Of course I’ve been spat at. I spent more than 10 years doing operational shift work - response team & tactical support (IRU & TSG).
-
I'm assuming this was in the 90s and how did you deal with it then ?
-
That’s very kind of you but it was mid-70s to mid-80s! It was a different era, there was more respect & it rarely happened but when it did, they learnt very swiftly it wasn’t a good idea!
-
Thanks for the reply Brian and I believe that this is the point others are trying to make is that you can't use the old way

So spit hoods on utility belts, like cuffs, ready to be used? Easy access ready to go. Its not like your under arrest, cuffs, spit hood and oh leg restraints too. Quick assessment will nail who gets hooded..
-
Apologies for those who cannot read, if someone spits at a police officer, the officer may use a spit hood.
-
Yeah. Exactly. And if the assessment of quick intell aka NDM says they are spitting / gearing up to spit then same applies.
-
Preemptive use of spit hoods is a different issue and fraught with problems. Warning a spit hood (that is available) will be used if suspect spits should help prevent but there needs to be a balance between risk & action.
-
Thanks. Not pre-emtive. Info intell that subject is in process of spitting would see the introduction of the hood. Agree its mere presence may diffuse.. hopefully.

True you can't get HIV but you can get Hep C. But like too many politicians you're missing the bigger issue Mr Paddick. It's humiliating and degrading to be spat on. End of, regardless of risk of any disease. Effective, cheap prevention denied to officers.
-
Please read what I said. I support he use of spit hoods for operational officers in the circumstances described by the Police Federation Chair. Don’t stereotype.

It’s not about HIV. It’s about the most singularly disgusting means of assaulting someone which can be so readily and easily dealt with
