This is disgraceful. The education system has an obligation to provide an education for every pupil not excluding those where the standard education provision does not meet their needs. “Fit in or ship out” should not be allowed in a universal education provision.https://twitter.com/gaveducation/status/1022011233619398662 …

Parents have a responsibility. Some parents are irresponsible or unable to care properly for their children (e.g. doing 3 jobs to pay the rent). It’s not the childrens’ fault. Schools have an obligation to meet the needs of all children, including those let down by their parents.

Both my child's primary schools used exclusions (at least one a week at its worst) as a means to get ed psych, behavioural support & paediatrics involved & ultimately an EHCP (statement of SEN). Cuts meant clear evidence of significant needs needed before help could be asked for.

If my child wasn't also on the "gifted or more able" register, I fear he would have had permanent exclusions.

League-tables, targets, examinations. All produce numbers we can unquestioningly run our lives by. What else do you need? Evidence that they are relevant? Dangerous!
