When the knowledge that people cannot change sex is accepted as transphobia without query or challenge, then I think there is a profound problem.

Yes, instead of parliament starting from the point where women only spaces is the status quo, the belief that ‘Transwomen are women’ is the starting point & that it’s bigotry to challenge it. The debate is rigged against us from the start.

“...Parliament is starting from...” The truth is, from talking to colleagues, 75% of parliamentarians don’t understand what this is all about or have no opinion.

Those of us who have engaged with politicians generally receive a standardised “party line” response, patting us on the head, telling us not to worry and failing to respond to any of the points made. I’m trying to gear myself up to write (again) but it does feel as they describe

You said recently that we need a strategy. Many of us have written to MPs. We tried to explain the risks we see. We related this to those in our families who may be affected. We have written to our MSPs.

We have written to organisations who are following self-ID as if it is already in place. There was almost no publicity. A few reporters started to pick up info from Mumsnet. It has been smeared and muted.

Women are organising meetings. Everywhere they go, they must make arrangements in secret. The size of meetings has been limited as so few venues will host us. Yet still women are attending. Tickets are sold out.

Sold out despite masked protesters blocking the way. Despite a woman being assaulted. Despite a bomb threat.

One of the most successful groups so far engages in peaceful protest, testing the way the (not-yet-even) law is applied when pushed to its limits. Your colleague sneered that these women are “nasty”

So if you mute every woman who falls into the trap of frustration, then it’s just one more door being slammed shut. And I understand that it is sometimes necessary to block for safety reasons and mute to protect mental health. But there is a power differential here.

Sarah I hear what you say but I am not blocking or muting people whose views I disagree with. I am not prepared to listen to people telling me what I think or believe when it’s a distortion of the truth. People need to say what *they* think, not what they wrongly think I think.

I'd like to know why it is just you doing this Brian? Why isn't every single member of parliament listening or engaging with this issue? It's clearly important to a lot of people with fierce passion on both sides. It can't be ignored because it's only women's rights.

You could ask them! I know the 'right side of history' has become hackneyed but a lot of your colleagues are choosing not to speak up and their silence will be judged when women's rights are finally confirmed.
