I’m chiefly concerned about ensuring the safety of women and girls against male violence, to be honest.

That might have worked when we were talking about 5,000 transsexuals. We are now talking about 500,000 'trans' who want self-ID. Perhaps 250,000 men who want access to women's facilities. Only 5,000 of them are transsexuals. The rest have no surgery. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1014593708904329216.html …

So you are going to interview a quarter of a million men to find out if they can be trusted in women's toilets, in changing rooms with children? The fact that they don't have dysphoria and they want access might be a clue.

It will be up to receptionists and other front line staff to do those on-the-spot interviews, with the threat of being hounded out of their jobs by activists if they get it wrong hanging over them.

I just don’t see how that can work. People are already afraid to voice an opinion because they fear being accused of bigotry. For women’s safety and dignity we need to re-establish the convention that women only spaces are just that.
