I’m chiefly concerned about ensuring the safety of women and girls against male violence, to be honest.
-
-
Absolutely - but this woman is not worried about genuine cases. It's the opportunist males that concern me. Proposed changes to the GRA will throw open the doors to them. It's naive to underestimate the lengths to which predators will go to gain access to vulnerable females.
-
We need safeguards
-
We need a way of enforcing female-only space. It's incumbent on everyone who supports self-ID & claims it won't diminish women's right to single-sex space to come up with answers. Female-only service-providers need an objective way of identifying natal males. What do you suggest?
-
Decisions need to be made on an individual basis
-
That might have worked when we were talking about 5,000 transsexuals. We are now talking about 500,000 'trans' who want self-ID. Perhaps 250,000 men who want access to women's facilities. Only 5,000 of them are transsexuals. The rest have no surgery. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1014593708904329216.html …
-
So you are going to interview a quarter of a million men to find out if they can be trusted in women's toilets, in changing rooms with children? The fact that they don't have dysphoria and they want access might be a clue.
-
It will be up to receptionists and other front line staff to do those on-the-spot interviews, with the threat of being hounded out of their jobs by activists if they get it wrong hanging over them.

But some do. And how are we supposed to assess who’s ‘genuine’ or not when our girls encounter them in the showers after swimming? You’re giving away our privacy & safety on a gamble that has no impact on you but will stop women feeling safe. Can you guarantee our safety? How?
-
I’m not giving away anything. I’m listening & learning and trying to understand the best way forward.
-
Best way forward may be to listen to actual women. Just a thought.

You mean like Lib Dem Sarah Brown who dishonestly changed the Equalities Policies of councils by stealth?? Honestly Brian? You think a few Tory swing votes over brexit will make people forget how your local gov stasi sold off even the parks in the cities?
-
I dont want to talk about other people. I understand some people hate Lib Dems & stereotype them as “all being the same” but we digress!

How do we identify who’s genuine and who’s a chancer bent on cheating the system to their own benefit though? Most men aren’t a danger to women. The government still recognises that there’s a need for women to have some spaces free of all men though.
-
Most taxi passengers aren't a threat, yet no one disputes that cabbies are entitled to the partition in black cabs. Most bank customers won't hold a gun to a teller's head, but that doesn't stop them needing protection. Crime against women is overwhelmingly committed by males.
-
By triggering a public discussion on whether any man should be legally enabled to declare himself a woman & thereby gain female rights, trans rights advocates have triggered an unavoidable debate on safeguarding, which has long-established protocols, as Lisa Muggeridge has said.

Research by
@fairplaywomen found an awful lot of transwomen in#prison for sexual and violent crimes. I wonder Brian, are those ppl not 'genuine transwomen'? If so, that demonstrates the danger of#selfID. And if they are genuine? And how to tell?#GRA#WomensRights -
This is the problem. Most law isn’t made on the basis that people are genuine so I don’t see why this one should be (except women don’t matter)It’s impossible to tell if someone is lying and front line staff risk accusations of bigotry, if they challenge a man saying he’s a woman
-
We had a safeguard - to allow only post-op transsexuals into women's facilities. Then the GRA allowed pre-ops to use facilities and now it's anyone who wants to. Only 18% of women want self-ID. Can you see how it seems like women are disregarded entirely? Our facilities!

Anyone who uses the expression TERF is a threat to women. TRAs exclusively attack and threaten women in order to bully acceptance out of them, in the same manner abusive men do. Recognizing and respecting non-trans women’s spaces would go a long way to helping their acceptance.
-
And by non-trans women, I mean -> women.

That exact thought occurred to me, hence the addendum. It’s sad, that the word for half the species has been co-opted to such a ludicrous extent. In one ‘apology’ I read sorry was offered for the word woman vice ‘menstruater’. She’d been called out by the bepenised ladies.
-
Oddly, I live in an area where there are many aboriginal ppl, and those of mixed race. The gov’t refers to the rest of as - non-aboriginal. It’s interesting to be classified by what you aren’t.
-
Yes language works like that. It`s weird!
