I'm pleased for you that you've never experienced flooding, when a quick wipe on loo roll won't do. But this is not the whole point. It is about women feeling safe, and private. Are male bodied people accetable in spaces protected by law for women? For me they are not. .

I care about people feeling safe too, and that includes trans people. A trans woman having to use male loos is put at risk,

If that's true (and I've seen no evidence that UK men are attacking transwomen: women are far more at risk from ALL males), why are trans people arguing for self-ID, which is contradictory as it will allow the men who are allegedly threatening them into the women's spaces too?

https://www.hrc.org/resources/violence-against-the-transgender-community-in-2017 … lists trans people in US subject to fatal violence. As to self-id, I doubt men are going to go through legal process of making a declaration to get a GRC

Tragic. As are the deaths of women at the hands of men. About one a week in the UK at the hands of a partner, for example And given the lengths abusers go to to access victims - training for jobs, moving communities- why on earth do you think abusers would not misuse self id?

Because it is a legal declaration (and it's not clear that it's reversible) and I doubt misogynists would stomach claiming to be the inferior sex

Predatory men accessing women’s spaces is a problem, already, now, without any changes to the GRA. It’s not a transgender issue. It’s a problem with men’s inappropriate behaviour, not a problem with trans women.

No but I’ve been the victim of male domestic violence so I know what it feels like not to feel safe in your own home. I’m guessing it’s something like that. But I haven’t been raped & can’t imagine the trauma that leaves some survivors with. Many trans women have & do understand.

Brian is right Jacky. Male violence was around long before the GRA was law. Why would a man pretend he was trans or female to attack a woman? He would have no difficulty attacking her just by being himself.

First off Jacky, I’m not a man. Please don’t be rude by calling me that. Insults don’t help this sort of discussion. Trans people have been around for decades. There is no evidence that their existence has facilitated male violence against women.

If these men who pretend to be women TRULY understood, they would go use the MEN'S facilities and NOT subject real women to greater risk of harm. Their selfish concern only for themselves is one big way these men show they know nothing about women..............

If they truly did they wouldn't call women fearful of males in women's spaces 'transphobic'! fear of males unknown to us and their genitalia is not an irrational fear that should be undone. It literally keeps us safe.

it shouldn't be taken personally, I'm sure you know how swiftly that fear is gone, once we know and build trust. But that can't be done under duress, it's a huge red flag for women. Often those who force their POV onto us prove the most hurtful.

          1. There's no evidence that experience of rape makes a person more empathetic to others' who've experienced it. (Some argue there's evidence to the contrary.) 2. TW rape survivors won't experience the same issues as female rape survivors. 1/2

Those aren't the only reasons Rape Crisis centres were set up *exclusively* for female survivors, and wish to retain that status. Brian, I'm sure you mean well, but you don't seem well informed about this.

... and also, on that note, TW survivors may well need support that is specifically designed for TW. Rape Crisis centres are already underfunded, understaffed & struggle to meet the needs of *female* survivors whom their *exclusively female* staff are trained to support. 1/2

Demands from males for support from Rape Crisis centres are unhelpful (altho staff do try to direct callers to appropriate services). There probably is a need for support services by/for TW - but removing all female status from centres isn't the way to provide it.
