If I wasn’t listening, I wouldn’t be asking questions. I have asked why they are being pushed out of public life and I’m not getting an answer. What proposed changes to the GRA will force “hundreds of thousands” of women out of public life?

If males are allowed access to female only space that drives women out of public spaces. Especially, but not exclusively, women who, because of cultural norms, are unable to share intimate space with males.

Males are not going to be allowed into female only spaces as a result of proposed changes to the GRA. And what female only spaces are public spaces necessary for women to participate in public life?

I’m concerned that if self ID is allowed and the notion that transwomen are women is accepted, males will be allowed into female spaces as they will be viewed as actual females. Spaces: toilets, changing rooms, hospital wards, but mostly prisons & refuges.

As now, prison and refuge places will be decided on an individual risk assessment.

I think that refuges are already under pressure now, because they can lose funding if they are ‘not inclusive’ and that men should never be housed in prison with women. But my point was that accepting people can change sex means the EA could be bypassed?

If the equality act offers protections based on sex, and self identification of gender comes to override biological sex, how can it not?

If someone states unequivocally that they are a woman, and have full documentation that states they are a woman, and having a GRC has special protected status so that it is illegal to ask if a person has one, how will anyone be able to prove they are not?

Are external legal experts being consulted, or trans groups? Perhaps I have understood the U.K. law incorrectly. It’s a complicated area. My question above is open minded. I would very much like to be assured that those involved understand all the implications.

The law is clear. The Equalities Act protects women-only spaces and services if there is a justifiable reason to exclude trans women that can be defended in law. The Equalities Act is not changing. The proposed change is to the GRA, which in essence is about changing birth certs.

PLEASE try and understand this! GRCs remove the VERY LAST MEANS that providers of female-only services have for excluding natal males & enforcing their LEGAL RIGHT to offer single-sex facilities. Ask yourself: HOW does a service provider prove a TW who's 'legally female' is a TW?

Yes. But if someone has a GRC and therefore a birth certificate that states they are female, is one allowed to ask? My understanding is there are protections in the GRA that state asking is not allowed as it is a protected characteristic. Or do I have that wrong?
