On loos - men's loos contain urinals whereas cubicles mean you don't see what other people are up to

Carys you know that's not the whole story. Cubicles are not floor to celing. Washing facilities are outside the cubicles. Women dealing with menstruation and menopause need privacy. Women need to be safe. And feel safe. Male bodied people don't belong in that space

I've never had a problem with privacy for menstruation - the disposal unit tends to be in the cubicle and if I get blood on my hands I tend to wipe it off with toilet paper 1st

I'm pleased for you that you've never experienced flooding, when a quick wipe on loo roll won't do. But this is not the whole point. It is about women feeling safe, and private. Are male bodied people accetable in spaces protected by law for women? For me they are not. .

I care about people feeling safe too, and that includes trans people. A trans woman having to use male loos is put at risk,

If that's true (and I've seen no evidence that UK men are attacking transwomen: women are far more at risk from ALL males), why are trans people arguing for self-ID, which is contradictory as it will allow the men who are allegedly threatening them into the women's spaces too?

https://www.hrc.org/resources/violence-against-the-transgender-community-in-2017 … lists trans people in US subject to fatal violence. As to self-id, I doubt men are going to go through legal process of making a declaration to get a GRC

Tragic. As are the deaths of women at the hands of men. About one a week in the UK at the hands of a partner, for example And given the lengths abusers go to to access victims - training for jobs, moving communities- why on earth do you think abusers would not misuse self id?

Because it is a legal declaration (and it's not clear that it's reversible) and I doubt misogynists would stomach claiming to be the inferior sex

So who follows up on whether people who self id actually live as the gender they identify as? Or are you trusting people will never use it for dishonest reasons?

It means a permanent change in your identity. Get a passport in a female name, with a female photograph and turn up at the airport looking and sounding every inch a man and see how far you get. If you make a false declaration you face up to 2 years in prison under current law.

You do realise that you are buying into the idea of men ‘passing’ as women being the defacto trans w position? Things have moved on from the days of only post op transexuals receving GRCs. People like this chap already represent women in several arenas:https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/there-no-legal-bars-woman-10297113 …

Are you saying a woman with a beard isn't a woman? I disproof that, even though I'm a woman by your definitions

No, and I wasn’t even saying that Alex Drummond isn’t a woman (though he isn’t). I was saying that @brianpaddick would be very much mistaken to believe that looking ‘every inch a man’ would prevent easy air travel under a female passport. Was that not clear?

Meet Alex Drummond of @stonewalluk. A non-op, non-hormones "woman". Self-ID is not about gender expression or presentation, Brian. They'd have to wave him through. Actually, they'd probably fast-track him through to the VIP lounge!pic.twitter.com/9Due4Nh7YJ

And a huge number of women, inc very many middle-aged menopausal & post menopausal women like me, do not have passports with ‘female photographs’ if by that you mean make up/long hair/etc. #stillawoman
