Don't generalise Brian. You fuel hatred of law-abiding cyclists by using that kind of language. For every 108 people killed on pavements, 107 are killed by motor vehicles. Cyclists don't pollute; & combat obesity. There are bad ones and there are bad drivers too.
I don’t think “cyclists are not as bad as motorists so you shouldn’t be complaining” is a reasonable argument. All road users should show consideration for others and obey traffic signals. End of.

No, not "end of" - your lack of perspective and inability to give due weight to the relative risk to live from wildly different modes is troubling coming from someone from a law enforcement background. Guns can kill; so can a catapult - which should bear the most scrutiny?

Brian, over half of all drivers are speeding in urban areas *right now* unless factors beyond their control prevent it. 80%+ in 20mph zones. If we're talking systemic lawbreaking, that's an order of magnitude bigger than anything cyclists get up to.

Some sense of proportion please Brian. More people are killed by lawn mowers than die in collisions with cyclists.

Why else would someone ignore 99.56% of pedestrian fatalities and bang on and on about just 0.44% unless they have a rather obvious agenda?

Two specific cases in more than two years. The statistics show that 5 people will be killed on the UK's roads by motor vehicles tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after... let's legislate against vulnerable road users then.

It's quite simple, both can be bad, however as a cyclist if you make a mistake the consequences can be worse for you, if your a car driver the chances are you will be fine, but the consequences are worse for other road users. It's about prioritising risk, cars cause more risk.

But if we have any sense, and if we believe in evidence based policy and action we must consider the 800 to 1 or 1600 to 1 proportions and say without hesitation "worst first; let's tackle bad drivers, bad roads, bad machines first".
