Don't generalise Brian. You fuel hatred of law-abiding cyclists by using that kind of language. For every 108 people killed on pavements, 107 are killed by motor vehicles. Cyclists don't pollute; & combat obesity. There are bad ones and there are bad drivers too.

No, it's not correct, as I've already conceded, there has been one, extremely well-covered case. The point I and many others are making is that the problem of nuisance cyclists is nothing compared to thousands of deaths every year caused by cars.
-
Rhiannon Bennett, who was 17 when she was killed by a speeding cyclist in 2007.
-
The cyclist wasn't speeding, Rhiannon had been drinking and her mates were in the road. Cyclists are getting stabbed for bikes in Hackney. That cyclist was wrong but I can understand wanting to get away.
-
“the defendant admitted in a police interview that he could have steered away from the pedestrians” but shouted "move because I'm not stopping".”
-
"Chris Thompson, defending Howard, said: "Mr Howard was riding down towards a group of young people. He shouted a warning and the group moved to his left. "You were right, exactly what you said, but Rhiannon at the last minute stepped back in front of him"

He was convicted
-
He was... 2 such incidents between 2007 and 2016. Is this the "perspective" you're so keen for
@theJeremyVine to have? -

2/2 And yet the facts are that motor vehicle operators kill 1,700 people a year in the UK and seriously injure many thousands more. But it's cyclists that are a menace and you refer to a two year old case to prove your point.
-
And later to an 11 year old case.
-
Cycles are involved on average in about three pedestrian fatalities a year, and 82 serious injuries. https://www.cyclinguk.org/campaigning/views-and-briefings/pedestrians …

What I like to know
@brianpaddick is why does a Lord have it so against ppl cycling yet I bet has been silent about the 1000s killed every every year by drivers. Bit hypocritical don't you think & wonder what's his agenda is.@CliffMatthews@bicycal_life@_bransby_@theJeremyVine -
If you read the thread you’ll understand I’m not being a hypocrite.
-
oh I have & think you are, people in the 1000s are killed, maimed, etc every year by motorists. But you bleat on about 1 or 2 a yr if that by those who cycle.
@CliffMatthews@bicycal_life@_bransby_@theJeremyVine -
From 2007 to 2016 cycles were involved on average in about three pedestrian fatalities a year, and 82 serious injuries. That’s too many.
-
Do you have a source for those statistics, please, Brian?

"you hear almost zero about the latter." Oh COME ON! One brakeless fool on a bike kills a woman & we got over 3000 newspaper articles, question in the House & a proposed new law. Meanwhile 10 kids are KSId by drivers every day with hardly a murmur.

By all means have a pop at cyclists who annoy you, but bear in mind that they are some of the most vulnerable road users in the country, and as a Lord you could be using your time and effort to help that situation instead.

1/2 This is one of those 'group' things isn't it? You don't see a motor vehicle operator fail to stop at a pedestrian crossing, as I did today, and think "bloody motorists are a menace they need to make them obey the law." And yet you think all cyclists are a menace.
