That's not news to me. So? OpenStack Foundation is also 501(c)(6), and it has thousands of members that are not corporations.
There are also scenarios where organisations can get past the contributor conditions but cannot get to membership levels sufficient for signoff. Full organisation membership can be a major hurdle.
Right. In addition, should a global community really need to care about what sub-subsection of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code applies, which, I dare point out, is internal to the U.S.?
@xahteiwi it's indicative of the mindset of the folks when the application was filed. Is it geared towards "public good" or for betterment of its "members".
I don't know where you're going with this argument. I said I disliked open source foundations being comprised of corporate members only. What does the US tax code have to do with that?
open source foundation talks about its "members" because of how they are set up and run. They are setup for benefit of its members. I don't like it either!
Is not that simple. Speaking personally, Node.js Foundation is Linux Foundation supported, with highly corporate membership. I cannot speak for others, but we joined to support Node.js. Yes, we benefit as it flourishes, because we use it heavily. It is investment in commons.
Again, I don't see how this relates to the discussion. Are you saying the benefit that Node.js is getting would somehow be different (worse?) if LF had individuals as members, who also have representation on the Board and a say in the foundation's direction?
Are you talking specifically LF itself?
