Missouri Gov. Mike Parson today vowed to prosecute the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for reporting a security flaw in an agency website that exposed 100k+ teacher SSNs. They held their story until it was fixed. Now Parson is shooting the messenger:https://krebsonsecurity.com/2021/10/missouri-governor-vows-to-prosecute-st-louis-post-dispatch-for-reporting-security-vulnerability/ …

Sounds like they've never heard of bounty rewards. Effective way to turn a positive into a negative, and make a bunch of enemies in the process.

html was prob dynamically generated and what they're seeing is when they do "view source" in the browser. STILL BAD.

I’m sure the “Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Digital Forensics Unit” will get to the bottom of it. Seems odd to mix Highway patrol with digital forensics

I wanna see that legal claim. And an estimate of how much money you’re willing to spend to pursue it. Also, @GovParsonMO - I volunteer to fix the problem for only $10 million.

The governor’s stunt is foolish. Since the newspaper reported the issue and the issue was addressed before publication, what judge would not dismiss a charge, if it gets that far? This will actually set a good precedent in the end.

That depends on how full the pockets of the judge become.
