I thought companies were required by law to disclose a data breach?

A lot of ransomware victims have been able to get away with not reporting these as data breaches by getting a forensics firm to say there was no data exfiltration. With this development, that excuse is going out the window.

Honestly, i am surprised it took them so long to come up with an idea like that. Especially in Europe with the GDPR fine threat, a lot more companies might be ready to pay for silence.
