In my experience, alias isn't a super common way to configure nginx (root seems more common), so I'd be surprised if it's a widespread issue (though surely there's some big targets)

Its an HTTP Request so no need for probe, we have a module where we can launch fully custom HTTP requests and that could be used to test for this!

It's a non standard configuration, but a possible one. Nginx isn't going to fix it

I mean, how does one exploit it? I have an nginx config defining a page on our site without a trailing slash - but I can't use this method to read files outside the directory from a web browser...
