Capa, for his part, had fled Hungary and moved to Germany; then fled Nazi Germany. Capa died in 1954 at the age of 40, when he stepped on a landmine in Vietnam. (Also, some recent research suggests there never were missing photos and there were only ever 11 from D-Day).

My God... imagine being the dude having to break it to Capa that he risked his life for 11 shots? All because the tech couldn’t do his/her job anywhere near as well as Capa did under life and death conditions? Nice job, Fotomat!!

He probably developed his own photographs, like most did in those days.

My uncle was one of those soldiers who landed on Omaha Beach. He survived. But had nightmares until he died a few years ago. He never talked about it.

Unbelievable what those guys went through. Can’t imagine how surreal it must have been.

The thought of getting off one of those crates to walk into a wall of machine gun fire really is terrifying. I just can't begin to really imagine what that must have been like,
