Dialogue around Trust and Safety has left niche communities – it’s everywhere. But the tone is shifting. Rather than fear-mongering, there are stories of agency, improved systems, and stronger defense against the inevitable: bad actors.

Eagles get the win fair-and-square. Fine. But about as lame and unsatisfying as it gets. I’ll be breaking protocol and rooting AFC in the Super Bowl.

Long, long ago I wrote a short piece about how Faisal’s extremism led him to denounce even other, ultimately-better-known, radical preachers.

This is terrible news. I met way back when I worked at New America and was based upstairs. Always struck me as someone that was in DC for the right reasons--fascinated by issues, thought illuminating them would improve things. A good human gone.

I am so shocked and so sad to hear about the tragic death of Blake Hounshell (@NYTBlake @blakehounshell.) I met him in Cairo when I was 22, on the day I got my very first newspaper job. I was excited when he joined The Times and wish I’d spent more time hanging out with him here.

This is a story I've been thinking about since at least 2018 when I first heard Facebook was spending a bunch of money to build a new cross-Bay transit system.
But to me, it feels more relevant four years later, given the changing state of the world — and Facebook. twitter.com/issielapowsky/

FWIW, this absolutely aligns with my professional experience. Even if it contrasts with the general narrative around violent actors online. The ex post facto biases in data collection that inform a ton of the media coverage really distort an accurate picture, in my experience.

Contrast this finding with what I'd deem is accepted wisdom regarding violent extremism online. The most dangerous people are often not the ones that are loudest online. From et al. Interesting findings. Nice job. tandfonline.com/eprint/CDUF8XV

Lots of folks have pointed out that it also doesn’t mention LinkedIn, Gab, or Parler. And they are right, that’s interesting too.
I mention TikTok only b/c it seems to spend so much ad money on other, ostensibly competing, platforms.

Good stuff here from the old team. I don't know all the recent details on HMA, but these are great tools for the low-hanging fruit.
Also good to see that DOI-land at FB still can't name anything decently. Feel like that's part of my legacy there and proud(?) to see it continue.

I never intended to be an entrepreneur. I’m here because T&S enterprises across industry do critical jobs with inadequate tools. I think that if we can help them, the world improves: dangerous material and actors better mitigated, less speech incorrectly squashed. 8/n
