🧵 I was fortunate enough to be one of the first employees in Seattle. Continuing to help grow the office there is an immensely rewarding experience for me. I sat down with of to discuss the approach we’re taking at Stripe:

Epstein drives, holodecks, warp speed, light speed, battle stars... I can believe they could exists sometime in the future. “open channel”, “hail on all frequencies”, and then just starting a video chat with an alien race who has no idea what protocols you use. Nope.

Also, empowered herself to bring a LOT of Belgian chocolate back after the holidays and share it with the office: many benefits to empowerment 🍫

Seahikes is an example of that empowerment, and there are many more.

The most important thing I want people to leave knowing, is that they are empowered: empowered to point out things which are not working, empowered to ask any questions, empowered to suggest and implement changes, and so much more.

I try to meet every new Stripe on their first day in the Seattle office—a 30 min informal group chat. While we do cover some things like how to register for the bike locker and where to file a ticket for our Workplace team, what I primarily focus on is *empowerment.*

Many people tend to believe they can’t evolve their workplace, believing culture and community are set. We believe that every new person who joins is an opportunity for us to evolve as a company, to learn, to grow, and to change.

Continually creating community has been instrumental as Seattle has grown from a single desk to the hundreds of people today. moved to Seattle when the office was already in the hundreds, and managed to create and nurture a new community. 🧵

I've been wondering the exact same thing. Someone did inform me that there is at least February this year as well but then they went on to say that it has an extra day this year!

Anyone in Seattle interested? Looks like a great opportunity for those with a particular interest in or passion for tech policy. Thanks for the pointer

We’re pretty solid at naming things. Our continuous load generation tool is named Falkor. Can anyone guess why?

What can I say, I love working and if you’re unfortunate enough to sit next to me at a bar, you’re going to hear why 😉

Was wonderful getting to talk with today about her life and experiences as a diplomat prior to Stripe and the ideas and beliefs about entrepreneurship that led her here. I get to work with some pretty amazing people.

3 years today. I was fortunate enough to be one of the first employees in Seattle. I feel immensely fortunate to be part of this company. We learn, grow, improve every day. We will always make some mistakes. What I truly appreciate is how we respond when we do

Really excited that and are teaming up to create this boot camp. There are few things more important to success of a business than the people. 🤔, maybe nothing more important. Can’t wait to see how many startups they help succeed.

Curious to see if there will be a renewed push for Scottish independence given these election results. SNP victories are pretty decisive and with BREXIT all but done, will there be another vote soon? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🗳

Ok, I’ll stop there for now. Did I mention that the most important relationship you’ll have when building an office is the partnership with your recruiting team? Yes. Good.
