Very common in genital cutting communities: social pressure and the sense that "it just is what it is" or "it's normal" or "it must be done" despite pain and downsides https://buff.ly/2T2x8rO pic.twitter.com/b4xwDDKm9u

Just like orthodontics or ear piercings.

Ear piercings should not be imposed on small children; they can choose for themselves when older. But the disanalogies w genital cutting are numerous & significant https://www.researchgate.net/publication/320853591_Circumcision_autonomy_and_public_health …. Orthodontics nearly always done w age appropriate consent & understanding of purpose

Orthodontics are usually administered to children to address crooked teeth or severe overbite/underbite. Comparison with #circumcision implies the foreskin is a problem in need of correction like crooked teeth or malocclusion. #i2

Male infant #circumcision would be better compared with something more radical like complete tooth extraction and replacent with dentures “to facilitate oral hygiene and prevent costly work such as fillings, root canals and orthodontics. People old age lose them anyway.” #i2

That used to be common. My mother had all her teeth out at 14.

Given how this is likely about infibulation (the most common form of FGM in Somalia), he's probably talking about that, not male circumcision, which makes it even more psychotic than usual.

There is absolutely no form of genital cutting/mutilation apologists won't trivialize, whether it be cutting off a boy's foreskin or ripping apart a girl's vagina and sewing it up.
